We've added a dynamic countdown timer to CrocoClick that customizes the countdown time for each contact based on when they receive or open your email.

This system allows you to create unique timers that are much more realistic than static ones.

Each person sees their own countdown, which increases engagement and conversion rates.

Summary of the article’s key points:

  • A dynamic countdown timer displays a countdown that is personalized for each contact

  • The dynamic timer is triggered only by an email (sending or opening).

  • The deadline is calculated individually for each contact.

  • A funnel does not initiate the countdown: it displays the pre-calculated deadline if the contact is identified.

  • Timers can be synchronized between email and funnel.

What is a dynamic timer?

A dynamic countdown timer is a personalized countdown that adapts based on each contact’s interactions with your email.

Unlike static timers that display the same countdown for everyone, a dynamic timer starts the moment the contact opens or receives the email, creating a unique experience for each person.

Example:

  • Contact A opens the email at 2 p.m.; their timer counts down from 2 p.m. to midnight.

  • Contact B opens the email at 5 p.m.; their timer counts down from 5 p.m. to midnight.

This type of feature allows you to generate personalized and time-sensitive experiences, thereby increasing engagement and encouraging immediate action.

Using a dynamic timer in a CrocoClick funnel

Dynamic timers also work on your funnel pages.

IMPORTANT: A funnel never initiates a dynamic countdown; it only displays the deadline calculated in the email.

How does it work?

  • The email calculates the personalized deadline for the contact.

  • The funnel displays the time remaining until this deadline, provided the contact is identified via a tracked link.

Real-world example

  1. The contact receives an email with a dynamic timer.

  2. Sending or opening the email triggers the creation of the personalized deadline.

  3. The contact clicks on your link → they arrive on your page.

  4. The page displays the same custom countdown.

⚠ Important: If a person arrives without being identified (direct visit, incognito tab, URL sharing, etc.), CrocoClick cannot personalize the timer, since it doesn’t know who they are.

Popular use cases

1. Birthday Offer (Trigger: Email sent)

Scenario: Send a birthday discount, valid until midnight on the customer’s birthday.

How it works:

  • The email is sent at 11:59 PM the day before the birthday.

  • Timer duration: 24 hours.

  • Timer end: 12:00 a.m. (midnight).

  • Result: Each customer has a full day to take advantage of the offer.

2. Black Friday Sale (Trigger: Opening the email)

Scenario: Offer a discount valid for at least 2 hours after the email is opened.

How it works:

  • Opening the email triggers the countdown.

  • Duration: At least 2 hours.

  • Timer ends: 11 PM.

Examples:

  • Contact A opens the email at 6 p.m. → Timer ends at 11 p.m.

  • Contact B opens the email at 10 p.m. → Timer ends at 11 p.m. the next day.

Each user has a personalized window to take advantage of the offer.

3. Welcome Offer (Trigger: Email opened)

Scenario: Welcome your new subscribers or customers with an exclusive offer, valid only within the first 3 days after opening the email.

How it works:

  • Opening the email triggers a personalized countdown.

  • Duration: 2 days and 12 hours (for example).

  • Timer ends: 11:59 PM

Examples:

  • Contact A opens the email on Monday at 10:00 AM → The timer ends on Wednesday at 11:59 PM.

  • Contact B opens the email on Tuesday at 3:00 PM → The timer ends on Thursday at 11:59 PM.

Result: Each new subscriber or customer has a limited time to take advantage of the offer, which strengthens their engagement from the start of your relationship and encourages quick initial action.

Explanation of how "minimum duration" + "the countdown ends at" works

What is “The countdown ends at ...”?

The "Countdown ends at..." feature allows you to set a specific end time, rather than a fixed duration starting from the interaction.

This ensures a more authentic and realistic experience for your contacts.

Why is this useful?

It prevents situations where the timer seems unrealistic or artificial.

Example:

  • Classic scenario: A user opens the email at 11:07 PM. With a 2-hour duration, the timer would end at 1:07 AM, which might seem strange or implausible...

  • With “The countdown ends at...”: You set the end time to midnight. This way, all timers end at the same time, creating a credible and consistent sense of urgency.

If the user opens the email at 11:04 PM and the countdown has a minimum duration of 2 hours, it will end at midnight the next day

Benefits of the dynamic countdown

  • Personalization: Each contact has a unique timer.

  • Urgency: Encourages immediate action through time-limited offers.

  • Flexibility: Allows you to choose durations and triggers tailored to each campaign.

How to use it?

  1. Create a timer: Go to the “Timer” section and click “Create a new timer.”

  2. Choose dynamic mode: Select the Dynamic Timer option.

  3. Set the duration and end time:

    • Choose a minimum duration (e.g., 1 day and 2 hours).

    • Set a specific end time (e.g., 11:00 PM).

    • Check how the timer behaves using the preview tool.

  4. Customize the design: Adapt the timer’s appearance to match your email style.

  5. Add linked actions: Define the actions to be performed when the timer is active or has expired (links)

  6. Save and use: Save the timer and insert it into your emails or funnels. You can also copy the code for custom templates.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

❓ When I use a dynamic timer, does the countdown reset if the user reloads the page?

No.
The dynamic timer is linked to the contact’s session and their unique identifier.
It never resets, ensuring the offer’s credibility.

❓ Can I set a specific end time (e.g., “midnight” for everyone)?

Yes.
You can combine:

  • a minimum duration,

  • and a fixed end time (e.g., 11 PM, midnight, etc.)

This makes the countdowns realistic and consistent while remaining personalized.

❓ What are the possible triggers for a dynamic timer?

Currently, you can choose the following as a trigger:

  • The sending of the email

  • Opening the email

👉 Arriving at a funnel cannot be a trigger:
as long as the visitor isn’t linked to a contact (via a tracked link, an email, an identified session, etc.), CrocoClick doesn’t know “who” they are, so it can’t create a unique countdown for them.

❓Can I have a different countdown for each customer in a funnel?

Yes, but only for identified contacts.

The dynamic timer calculates a personalized deadline at the contact level (for example, when the email is sent or opened).
Then, when that contact clicks on a tracked link and arrives on your funnel, the countdown displays the same personalized deadline.

👉 If someone lands on your page without being identified (untracked link, direct visit, etc.), the timer cannot be personalized by contact.

❓ What’s the difference between a dynamic timer in an email and in a funnel?

  • In an email, the timer is created and triggered (when sent or opened).

  • In a funnel, the timer uses the deadline already calculated for that contact and displays the time remaining.

The funnel does not initiate the countdown: it simply displays the same personalized deadline once the contact is identified.

❓ Does the countdown remain consistent between the email and the funnel?

Yes, that’s exactly the goal.

You can synchronize the countdown between:

  • the email

  • the funnel page

  • multiple pages within the same funnel

❓Can the dynamic timer be used for an offer limited to 24 hours, 48 hours, or 3 days?

Yes.
You can set any duration, with or without an end time.

This dynamic timer is a powerful tool for your CrocoClick campaigns, offering increased personalization and a sense of urgency to boost your conversions. Take advantage of it now!
