Prerequisites
Important Glossary
Before starting the transfer, here are some essential terms to understand 👇
Registrar
The company from which you purchased your domain name (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, IONOS).
→ This is the company that manages the official registration of your domain.
DNS Provider
The location where your DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.) are hosted.
→ This may be different from the registrar if you’ve changed the nameservers (e.g., domain purchased on GoDaddy but DNS managed on Cloudflare).
Nameservers
The servers that indicate where your domain’s DNS records are located.
→ Changing the nameservers is equivalent to switching DNS providers.
EPP / Auth Code
A unique authorization code provided by your registrar to approve the transfer of your domain.
→ It is required for any transfer.
WHOIS Privacy
An option that hides your personal information (name, email, address) in the public WHOIS database.
→ It must be disabled before any transfer.
DNSSEC
Security protocol that strengthens DNS validation.
→ It must be disabled before the transfer to avoid errors.
Zone File
File containing all your domain’s DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT…).
→ Allows you to easily import your current settings into CrocoClick.
ICANN
Global organization that regulates domain name rules.
→ It requires a 60-day waiting period before any transfer.
Conditions set by the global organization that regulates domain name rules (ICANN)
Before you begin, verify that your domain meets these conditions (ICANN and technical requirements):
> 60 days since purchase or the last transfer.
Domain unlocked with your current registrar. (You can ask your registrar directly)
WHOIS Privacy disabled.
DNSSEC disabled.
Authorization code (EPP/Auth) available.
Valid WHOIS contact email (you will receive approval emails).
Sufficient credit in your CrocoClick wallet for the transfer (includes 1 year of renewal).
Backing up your current DNS records is recommended (export zone file if possible).
How to transfer a domain to CrocoClick
In your account: Settings → Domains & Redirects → Domains tab.
Click Buy/Transfer a Domain → Transfer a Domain to CrocoClick.
If the domain is already listed as External, click Transfer to CrocoClick.
Enter your domain name → Continue.
Step 1 – Eligibility Check
CrocoClick automatically checks ICANN rules and the domain status.
If eligible, you will see:
Domain Name
Current registrar
Current expiration date and new expiration date (+1 year)
Associated fees (1-year renewal)
Not eligible if, for example: unsupported registrar, unsupported TLD, purchase/transfer < 60 days, blocking EPP status (pendingDelete, redemptionPeriod, serverHold…), exceeded maximum duration, etc.
In this case, Continue is disabled and you will see an explanatory message.
Step 2 – Review and save your DNS
Objective: to avoid any downtime (website/email) after the transfer. You have two methods to retrieve your current DNS:
Method A – Import the zone file (recommended if possible)
Log in to your current DNS provider
Export the zone file (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.).
Import this file into the CrocoClick wizard.
💡TIP: Your DNS provider may be different from your registrar if you’ve changed your nameservers.
e.g., Domain hosted by Google but DNS managed by Wix.
Method B – Automatic DNS scan
CrocoClick scans your existing records.
Important: Some records may not be detected. Manually compare them with the DNS list from your current provider and add/modify as needed.
Step 3 – Finalize the Transfer
The transfer finalization step is crucial: it officially authorizes the transfer of your domain from your current registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, IONOS, etc.) to CrocoClick.
It also ensures that your websites, emails, and other connected services continue to function normally during and after the migration.
a) Disable DNSSEC and WHOIS protection
Start by logging into your account with your current registrar.
Go to the Domain Settings or DNS section, then look for the following options:
DNSSEC: Disable it. This security protocol prevents the transfer as long as it remains active.
WHOIS Protection (or WHOIS Privacy): Disable this as well. This protection hides your information in the public WHOIS database, but it blocks the delivery of authorization emails required to validate the transfer.
Once these two settings are disabled, save your changes.
Depending on the registrar, it may take a few minutes for the DNSSEC removal to take effect.
💡TIP: Here are some useful links for some of the most well-known registrars
GoDaddy: Disable DNSSEC and Disable WHOIS Privacy protection
NameCheap: Disable DNSSEC and Disable WHOIS Privacy protection
IONOS: Disable DNSSEC and Disable WHOIS Privacy protection
b) Unlock the domain
Next, check that your domain is not locked. Look for an option called “Domain Lock,” “Registrar Lock,” or “Domain Lock.”
Disable it to make your domain transferable.
💡 As long as the domain is locked, no transfer request can be initiated, even if everything else is in order.
c) Retrieve your authorization code (EPP/Auth Code)
The EPP code (or Auth Code) is a unique identifier generated by your registrar to confirm that you are indeed the domain owner.
It is the access key that authorizes the transfer. To obtain it:
Go to the settings for the domain in question.
Look for an option such as “Transfer Code,” “EPP Code,” “AuthInfo,” or “Transfer Authorization.”
Depending on your provider, the code may be displayed directly on the screen or sent to your primary email address.
🔒 Tip: Some registrars hide this option in the “Security” or “Transfer” section. If you can’t find it, check their help center or contact their support team.
d) Return to CrocoClick to confirm the transfer
Once your domain is unlocked and you have the EPP code, return to CrocoClick and go to the “Finalize Transfer” step.
Enter the authorization code in the field provided, then click Confirm and Finalize Transfer.
At this point, CrocoClick:
Verify that the domain is indeed unlocked.
Validates the EPP code with the original registrar.
Confirms that there are no errors at the registry level (status, DNS, etc.).
If all checks are successful:
Your CrocoClick wallet is debited the amount corresponding to the one-year renewal fee (added to the current expiration date so you don’t lose any domain months).
The request is officially submitted to the original registrar.
Once this step is validated, the transfer moves to “Pending Approval.”
Your domain is then awaiting validation from your former registrar—this will be the focus of the next step: transfer approval.
Step 4 – Approve the pending transfer
Once the transfer request is sent from CrocoClick, it changes to “Pending Approval” status.
This step involves manually approving the transfer with your current registrar—without this action, the process cannot be completed.
a) Why this approval is necessary
As a security measure, all registrars require explicit confirmation from the owner before a domain can be transferred.
This helps prevent unauthorized transfers.
Approval can be provided either:
via a confirmation email sent to the WHOIS contact address,
or directly from your registrar’s dashboard.
💡 If you do nothing, some registrars automatically approve the transfer after 5 to 7 days.
b) How to approve based on your provider
Here’s how to proceed depending on your current registrar 👇
➡️ GoDaddy
Option 1 – By email: You’ll receive an email from GoDaddy containing a link to confirm the transfer. Simply click this link to approve it.
Option 2 – From your dashboard:
Log in to your GoDaddy account.
Go to the Domains section.
Select the domain in question.
Look for the “Transfer Pending”notification.
Click Approve Transfer.
➡️ Namecheap
Log in to your Namecheap account.
Go to the Domains section.
Click on the domain you want to transfer.
Look for the "Pending Transfer" status or check your email.
Follow the instructions to approve the transfer.
➡️ IONOS
Log in to your IONOS account.
Go to Domains & SSL.
Select the relevant domain.
Look for the "Pending Transfer" status or follow the instructions you received via email.
Click Approve Transfer.
c) After approval
Once the transfer is approved:
Your domain is moved to CrocoClick’s partner registrar (Cloudflare).
It now appears in your Internal Domains table on CrocoClick.
You can immediately manage your DNS, renewals, and billing from your interface.
The Manage button becomes active to perform new actions.
d) If the transfer is rejected
The transfer may be rejected if:
You cancel it manually,
Your registrar applies a 60-day lock,
You do not approve the request within the allotted time.
In this case:
The domain will appear with the status “Rejected”,
The “Transfer to CrocoClick” button reappears,
You can restart the process as soon as the conditions are met again.
Step 5 – After the transfer
Check your DNS: ensure correct pointing to sites/tunnels/email.
Reconnect the products if necessary:
Email sending domains
Website/tunnel domains
Customer portal / white-label login
Enable auto-renewal (recommended to avoid losing your domain).
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
EPP code rejected → request a new code and verify the unlock status.
Approval email not received → check the WHOIS email, spam/junk folder.
Domain still locked → wait for the unlock to propagate and try again.
> 7 days and no progress → some registrars take longer; check the status in their interface.
Website/email down → records are missing. Compare and immediately add/edit the DNS in CrocoClick.
FAQ
How much does a domain transfer cost?
The transfer automatically includes billing for a one-year renewal, added to your domain’s current expiration date.
Are all TLDs accepted?
Yes, most standard TLDs (.com, .net, .org, etc.) are supported.
However, some ccTLDs (country-code domains) may not be compatible depending on the local rules of our partner registrar (CloudFlare).
Can I transfer it elsewhere later?
Absolutely. You can unlock your domain and retrieve an EPP code to initiate an outgoing transfer.
⚠️ Just make sure to wait the ICANN-mandated 60-day period after a transfer before initiating a new one.
The automatic scan missed some DNS records: what should I do?
If certain records were not detected, manually compare the list with that of your current DNS provider. Add or correct the records before finalizing the transfer to avoid any downtime.
Registrar ≠ DNS Provider: What’s the Impact?
If your nameservers point to a third-party service (e.g., Cloudflare), that service remains your DNS provider. The registrar transfer does not affect your current DNS settings. You can therefore keep your existing nameservers or choose to migrate them to CrocoClick.
How long does it take after completion?
Transfers are typically completed within 1 to 5 days, depending on the registrar.
They can be finalized more quickly if you manually approve the request.
I can’t find the “Unlock” option on my registrar’s website.
The option is often found in the “Security” or “Transfer Settings” sections. If you still can’t find it, check the help center or contact your registrar’s support directly.
Will the transfer cause an outage?
No, as long as your DNS records are properly reviewed and migrated before finalization.
A manual cross-check between the old and new records is essential to prevent any website or email outages.
